Standardbreds are generally breed for Harness Racing but are now becoming very well known as great performance horses for ARC, PC, Western, Endurance, EFA. They have great training ability and learn very quickly. With there great temperment they suit beginners to the more advanced rider and make a fun and easy going horse to have around. Here are some storys of our different horses we have had or still have out competing and some of there performance details.
Test of Metal or better known as Stormy at home is a steal grey 15.1hh Gelding. He has already accomplished so much in a short time. Tim has been training him up to become a clerk of the course for harness racing. He has Led the races out a few times and one of those times he did it at Breeders Crown carrying a flag to lead the race winners back. For a horse that hasn't been broken in that long to having a large flag flying above your head it really proves the temperament of these horses.
Full of Jewels or better known as Julie at home is a lovely chestnut mare that blew a lot of people out of the water when she went to TTT horse Trials in April 2007. It was her first ever horse trials and she was doing grade 4 she pulled off a terific dressage test and then went on to go clear cross country and showjumping to get 7th out of 30 odd riders. Considering Julie had only been under saddle since the start of the year she did a wonderful job. She has also done exceptionally well out showing with getting Reserve Standardbred Mare at her first outing. Julie will continue to compete with us and prove to everyone what an exceptional breed the standardbred is.
Molly is my current competition horse and is proving to all that meet her and see the results from her competitions that standys are the most versatile breed.
In the year that I have had Molly she has placed at all disciplines across the board starting with 2 weeks under saddle going to Clunes show winning Champion Ridden Standardbred and then to coming 4th at an open Horse Trials and also at her first showjumping day getting a 5th. Molly is out competing under the HRCAV and Standardbred Show classes for SPPHAV and enjoys all her disciplines that she tries. Also has had the privilege to lead out the races 3 times. Even has trained up to 1 metre showjumping at the SRG rally. Molly is becoming an exceptional alrounder that just excels in what ever she is given to do from a trail ride to a showjumping day coming 3rd out of 32 riders. Molly is a superstar and proves to everyone that meets her that standys are a great breed to have.
Rusty came to us after he had been trailed for racing but wasn't going to make the grade. The owners where going to send him to the knackery but instead got offered to us when the trainer suggested it. So he was 4yo and 14.3hh. So he got broken in to saddle and was a gem from day one never did a thing when we hopped on his back walked him round the backyard. Then in a week of been broken in and not have done much in that week we took him to ARC rallie we only did the dressage session and at a walk and trot but Rusty couldn't careless about the other horses or the new environment. Which lead him to doing his first competition only 6 weeks broken in we went to a dressage day and did a level 5 test. He did it perfectly and got a score of 67% for his first outing. Soon after he started jumping and excelled at it doing lots at ARC rallies and then going to competitions and doing clear rounds. Now Rusty has a new home doing PC and ARC with mother and daughter sharing him. I have heard he is excelling in everything he does from games at PC to a quiet trail ride.
Nightn Zante or better known as Dargo. He is 7yo 16.2hh Gelding. Dargo came to me through a friend that had him but hadn't done much with him and couldn't afford to keep him anymore. After only been off the track a year after a successful racing career. He had been broken to saddle but he picked up on things so quickly. His owner said he couldn't canter more than a couple of strides. Well the first time I rode him was at ARC rallie he proved that theory wrong Dargo did a lovely 20m circle of canter. Then did the jumping and was flying over the jumps at trot and canter. Then 2 weeks later of knowing him we went to a dressage comp where he came 7th and 8th for the 2 tests out of 20 people. His biggest issue was the judge in the car he couldn't understand that they would talk to us through a window and wasn't sure about that end of the arena. Dargo couldn't careless about all the things happening around him. Then he has gone on to his first show where he got 3rd in level 3 rider class, 2nd in begginers mount, 4th in pleasure mount and a 1st in pairs. Now he has his first combined training day very soon so we will have to see how he goes. At the combined Training day Dargo did very well pulling off a great dressage test and doing his first showjumping round ever and got a refusel on the first jump but then went on to clear the rest at a canter.
Imaalbatrossone better known as Butler 16.2hh. He was breed by Tim's grandfather and trained by his dad and so a very special horse to Tim. Tim broke him in 3 years ago in the middle of his very succesful racing career to help settle him for racing and give him a break from it all. Tim hopped on him and proceded to take him for a walk round the small town where his father lived. If you can do that the first time you put a saddle on you know they are going to be good. Now that his racing career has finished for good we have him back and he is allowed to go competing and do some jumping. The photo below is him at his first Dressage competition. A friend of ours has described his canter as Amazing. He has been taken out jumping and nearly always does clear round just a rail off every now and again.
